Every year when Super Bowl rolls around, one thing is the main focus of the party, aside from the game itself. Festive and delicious game day food is a must when throwing a Super Bowl party.

Whether deciding to go all out with some elaborate, traditional fare or putting together a few simple but flavorful appetizers, football fans will all agree that food is a large part of the appeal of a Super Bowl party. And who can disagree, when the food is brought out during pre-game and halftime?

On the actual day of a Super Bowl game, it is usually dedicated to pre-game fun and festivities. Ahead of time, ask friends and family attending the party what flavors and foods they prefer and plan accordingly.

Whatever choices are made, it’s sure to be a hit if a little time and effort is put into it. Enjoy some of these Super Bowl party ideas and recipes for the big game day.

Menu Ideas

First, start the pre-game party with a few appetizers that are small but savory. For the adults, serve a few fun, fruity drinks or a favorite brew, and for the kids, make limeades or strawberry-blueberry smoothies.

Next, right before the game starts, take orders from party-goers, and create personalized mini-pizzas. Try out some of these main course ideas to go along with the meal.

Appetizers

Game Day Layered Bean Dip

Ingredients:

  • ½ can refried beans
  • 1/2 cup mild or medium heat salsa
  • 1/3 cup jalapeno slices, pickled version
  • ½-1 cup sour cream
  • ¼ pint cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 scallion, sliced

Directions:

  1. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, spread a layer of refried beans on bottom of dish.
  2. Next, layer salsa on beans, not mixing.
  3. Next, layer tomatoes and jalapeno slices.
  4. Next, layer ½ of the scallions.
  5. Top the entire dish with ½ cup shredded cheese.
  6. Microwave dish for 1-2 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
  7. Top with sour cream and the remaining cheddar cheese and scallions. Serve immediately with soft tortilla slices or tortilla chips.

Spinach Dip

Ingredients:

  • 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen creamed spinach
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Dash of salt, pepper

Directions:

  1. Allow frozen spinach to thaw, and mix it with the other ingredients.
  2. Pour into 8x8 dish, and bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  3. Sprinkle with extra mozzarella and parmesan cheese during last five minutes of baking. Serve with tortilla chips.
