The great thing about Super Bowl parties is having a little fun with the food choices. For example, cooking dishes with a football theme in mind or shaping them like a football is always a fun, festive option.

Football Mini Burgers

  1. Brown the ground beef, and drain off any excess liquid.
  2. Stir in a tablespoon of flour and 1 package dry onion soup mix.
  3. Add a little water and cook slow for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  4. Stir often and allow to cool. Form small patties out of the mixture and spoon over cheddar cheese and toasted buns.

  2. Spoon a small amount of pizza sauce over the crusts.
  3. Top with the desired toppings, cheeses and small dash of Italian seasonings.
  4. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 5-10 minutes or until cheese is melted through.

Beer Onion Brats

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 brats, the pre-cooked versions
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 2 white or yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 (12-ounce) bottle good beer
  • 6-8 hoagies or thick hot dog shaped bun, toasted

Directions:

  1. Melt the butter in a medium-sized saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until the onions are softened.
  2. Add 1/2 bottle of a good beer and allow the onions to cook over low heat for 5-10 minutes, covered.
  3. Meanwhile, on an outdoor or indoor grill, cook the brats evenly until blackened on each side.
  4. Once grilled, transfer brat to a toasted bun, and place a fair amount of onions over each brat before serving.

Serving Tip: Enjoy the brats with a favorite brew or choose the beer brand that was used to cook the onions. Also, for a topping option, serve the beer onion brats with a bit of honey mustard. As a side, make a simple potato salad or fried potatoes.
